Recently the Coach Operators of South Africa –a subcommittee of South African Bus Operators Association –adopted the following Categories for Buses and Coaches: • Standard/Commuter bus • Semi Luxury Coach with Air-con • Luxury Coach • Super Luxury Coach These are all coaches but there is a difference. The main difference between Semi Luxury and Luxury is found in the configuration of the seats and the air- con found in each coach. Luxury coaches have seats that are 2x2 or 2x1 in configuration and are able to recline, the coach should also have an air-con and a Radio/DVD/PA system. As soon as the seats are in a 3x2 configuration then we call the coach Semi Luxury. Looking at the difference between a Luxury, Full Luxury or Super Luxury coach remember the following pointers: • The Full Luxury and Super Luxury coaches have a Rear engine, Toilet, Fridge and all features of a Luxury coach. • The main difference between the two is the double door. * If a coach only has one door, but still have all the features it would be called Full Luxury. IMPORTANT: Super Luxury coaches must not be older than 5 years. After 5 years the coach reverts to being only Luxury. So feel free to ask your transport provider what are the features on their coaches so that you know what they quote you on, and what to expect at the pick-up point.
